**COURSE DETAILS**

Arrive: Thursday 9.45am sharp for a 10am start. (Optional: Meet the day before, on Wednesday, to set up camp and stay an extra night).

Finish: Approx 4pm, Sunday

CAMPING OPTIONS:

BYO Tent/Swag: Bring all your own gear (tent/swag, camping mattress, sleeping bag, pillow etc. Whatever you need to be comfortable)

Vehicle Camping: The area we do a lot of the activities is right next to where you will park your car, so if you want to camp in or next to your vehicle - no worries at all, just bring what you need for this

Please also note that no dogs/pets are to be brought into the area.

TO BRING:

*Please make sure you prepare for the weather conditions as they can be a bit colder or hotter out this way.*

🍃 NOTEBOOK & 2 x PENS! Even if you aren't a big note taker, there will likely be something you WILL want to write down - esp re Jake's encyclopedic plant knowledge.

🍃 Phone/camera

🍃 Charged power pack should you wish to charge your phone (you'll likely be taking a bunch of pictures)

🍃 Torch

🍃 Hot/wet weather gear, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent

🍃 Feel free to bring your bow if you have one and plenty of spare arrows

PLUS + Bug Out Bag aka Survival Go Bag:

Your bug-out bag (or go bag) is your pre-packed, portable emergency kit designed to help you survive after evacuating due to a disaster, emergency or crisis. Here's what I recommend including:

  • 3/4 to full tang knife (the blade goes 3/4 or all of the way through the handle.) Morakniv make good cheap knives.

  • A folding saw

  • Tarp/hoochie with o-rings

  • Fully charged battery power pack for your phone

  • Whistle

  • 20 metres parachord

  • Emergency blanket

  • Raincoat

  • Small self inflating mattress (decent ones in most camping stores)

  • Leather gardening gloves

  • Sleeping bag (minus 2° - 5° ideal)

  • Mozzy net (mainly needed for Summer/Autumn)

  • Up to 80 - 85 litre backpack to fit all your things in

*This can all end up a bit expensive, so if you can't grab all the gear, just get what you can and reach out to Jake if you have any questions

**Check out THIS VIDEO with some great options from an old-school army disposal store (Lakes Army Disposal) in Boolaroo near Lake Macquarie (free shipping over $100)

FOOD:

Please ensure you bring enough food and snacks for the entire duration of the weekend (4 days and 3 nights).

Recommended: Practical food/snacks for taking on medium level hikes eg fruit, nuts, muesli bars etc. Canned foods, noodles (easy stuff) and/or pre prepped healthy meals stored in your eski. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO BRING A WATER BOTTLE, PLUS I recommend having a big water container in your car.

I don't mind if you want to have a couple of quiet drinks in the evening, just don't make it a piss up as others might not want to be around alcohol for whatever reason.

Clothing:

Please wear comfortable clothes, walking shoes/boots, and bring layers for hot, wet and/or cooler parts of the day. A hat and sunscreen are strongly recommended. In the warmer months, it's a good idea to wear lightweight long pants and tuck them into your socks to keep the creepy crawlies out. Bring spare socks.

And again, please be prepared for colder weather at night, with extra layers, blankets and in the colder months, gloves, thermals and a beanie. Looking forward to seeing you at the Walkabout Bushcamp!
