Your Journey Starts Here!


Spend 2 days over this relaxed, fun and inclusive Bush Survival Course, where you'll learn fundamental skills for surviving the wild, with a strong emphasis on utilizing edible and medicinal wild plants (Jake's specialty!)


Jake Cassar, 50, has been described as an encyclopedia of bush knowledge, earning this reputation by spending extended periods living in the wild subsisting on only what he can obtain from the land.


An award winning conservationist, Jake's truly comprehensive knowledge of edible and medicinal wild plants, and his personal stories from decades of experience, are guaranteed to change the way you look at the Aussie bush forever!


This empowering, educational and engaging experience is guaranteed to inspire you to continue your journey of getting in a much closer relationship with nature. Over the weekend you'll:


  • Build confidence in regard to identifying and safely using a variety of edible and medicinal native and introduced plants

  • Learn about poisonous plants and fungi

  • Learn all about the amazing wildlife at Jake's beautiful bushcamp

  • Learn fundamental survival skills such as

    • making friction fire,

    • building a weatherproof shelter,

    • making cordage from natural fibres, and

    • finding fresh water and nutritious wild food in some truly unexpected places

  • Establish and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with the land and all its inhabitants

  • Learn about safe, sustainable and respectful foraging

  • Enjoy Jake's campfire stories, music and bushcraft related discussions

  • Learn the fundamentals of tracking including animal track and scat ID, bird language

    and much, much more!

     

This weekend course is your starting point to getting closer relationship with the land. Check out "The Patch System" to dive deeper into the next levels of our unique Rite Of Passage incl level 1) White, 2) Yellow, 3) Green, 4) Blue, 5) Brown and 6) Black patch



**COURSE DETAILS**


Arrive: Saturday 9.45am sharp for a 10am start. Meet at Pembertons Hill Road Mangrove Mountain, 300 metres on the left. Jake will be waiting.


** Optional early set up on Friday afternoon - meet Jake at 4.30pm sharp - please select this option at checkout if needed **


Finish: Approx 4pm, Sunday (ideally no earlier)



CAMPING OPTIONS


Self Sufficient Camping: Bring your tent, mattress, sleeping bag/s and pillow and you're good to go. We do have a large canvas tent with a couple of rooms in case anyone would like to use that. Let us know.


Vehicle Camping: The area we do a lot of the activities is right next to where you will park your car, so if you want to camp in or next to your vehicle - no worries at all.


Amenities: We have a pit toilet (with seat and privacy), a hot shower (have to heat up water) and electricity to charge phones.


Note: Vodafone has limited reception, but it's a 2 minute drive to reception.



TO BRING


  • NOTEBOOK & PEN! Even if you aren't a big note taker, there will likely be something you WILL want to write down - especially regarding Jake's encyclopedic plant knowledge.

  • Phone/camera

  • Phone charger


Wear: Warm / cool layers, hiking boots (optional), sun hat, sunscreen, raincoat. Bring spare socks.


Food: Please ensure you bring enough food and snacks for the entire duration of the weekend. Recommended: Fruit, nuts, muesli bars, canned foods, noodles (easy stuff) and/or pre prepped healthy meals in containers that can be kept in the camp refrigerator. Please also bring a water bottle.


Again, please be prepared for colder weather at night, with extra layers, blankets and in the colder months, gloves, thermals and a beanie.
